Technical requirements for machine embroidery layouts,
machine embroidery capabilities.

In order for the embroidery of the logo to be beautiful and neat, it is necessary to take into account some of the technical capabilities of embroidery machines when preparing the layout. This is especially important if the drawing is complex — with thin lines, small size, etc. Problems may also arise if embroidery is needed in a hard-to-reach place, embroidery on unusual material, embroidery of large size and in other situations. In addition, a well-
made layout will facilitate the work of a designer who will develop a program for an embroidery machine based on it. The layout should make it clear what size and colour the logo to be embroidered should be, and where it will be located. If all these details are clearly depicted and spelled out in the layout, then there will be no errors due to misunderstandings between the customer and the production. It is best to clarify the basic requirements with the contractor before developing a layout for computer embroidery, since the requirements for layouts may vary slightly from one embroidery company to another, but nevertheless we will try to list the main points that need to be paid attention to when preparing a layout for embroidery.

1. The layout must be in vector form.
To create a vector layout, Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw programs are used (vector file formats are .ai, .cdr, .eps, and in some cases .pdf).

2. Scale 1:1
The drawing in the layout is made in full size, that is, the size that the embroidery needs (or you need to write the required size in the file)

3. Embroidery color
If you need to embroider a logo that must be made in a certain corporate color, then you must specify the pantone number of this color. Of course, there are not as many shades of threads as pantone colors, so no one will guarantee 100% getting into pantone, however, you can choose the color as close as possible to the desired one.

4. The height of the letters being embroidered
Ideally, the height of each letter is at least 5 mm. Well, some manufacturers undertake to embroider 4 mm, but keep in mind that the smaller the letter, the more difficult it is to embroider, which means it will no longer look very beautiful. It is better to make very small inscriptions in a font, that is simple, clear, sans–serif (for example, Arial) – such letters will be better embroidered and easier to read. If embroidery is done not on smooth material, but on fleece, terry towel, fur and other fabrics with lint, it would be good to make the letters larger so that they do not get lost in the thicker fabric.

5. Letter spacing, line thickness, and stroke
To prevent the letters from merging, the distance between them should be at least 1 mm. The line thickness is at least 1 mm, and the outline thickness is at least 1.5 mm.

6. Maximum machine embroidery size
If you need embroidery on a straight surface — just on the fabric, the cut of the clothes, the back of the T-shirt, then everything depends on the capabilities of the embroidery machine, or rather on the size of the hoop (these are two rings between which the embroidered fabric is inserted). The simplest household machines allow you to make embroidery as much as 10 * 10 cm, but in serious industries, of course, there is professional embroidery equipment with large embroidery frames. But if you have a large layout, it is better to check with the manufacturer what is the maximum size they can embroider. Sometimes you can split a drawing into parts and embroider it in stages.
